Women’s Tennis Sweeps Three Matches Over Weekend; Extends Sweep Streak to Six

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – The University of Northwestern women's tennis team traveled to Wisconsin this past weekend to compete in three matches. The Eagles continued their recent run of dominance by sweeping all three matches, and have now won their last six matches by 9-0 sweeps.
 
Match One: Eagles 9, Raiders 0
 
Northwestern first took on the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders on Friday afternoon. UNW powered through doubles with an 8-1 win at #1, an 8-0 sweep at #2, and an 8-3 victory in the #3 match.
 
In singles, Elli Dodge (Wahpeton, N.D./Wahpeton) earned the fourth team point with a 6-0, 6-2 win in the #4 match. Belinda Weddle (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) closed out the team win with a 6-0, 6-2 in the #1 singles match to take the deciding fifth point for Northwestern. UNW won the remaining four matches to complete the 9-0 sweep over MSOE.
 
Match Two: Eagles 9, Sabres 0
 
On Saturday morning, the Eagles opened a doubleheader day with a contest against the Marian Sabres. Northwestern opened the competition with a pair of 8-0 doubles sweeps at the #1 and #3 matches. UNW added an 8-1 win at #2 doubles to advance to singles play up 3-0.
 
Elise Jarchow (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) won the fourth team point for UNW to bring the Eagles within one point of victory. Dodge followed Jarchow by clinching the match with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at #4 singles. Northwestern again proceeded to win the remaining four matches to add another 9-0 sweep to their record.
 
Match Three: Eagles 9, Muskies 0
 
The Eagles closed out their weekend of competition in Wisconsin with a match against the Lakeland University Muskies. Once again, Northwestern cruised through the doubles competition as the Eagles won #2 and #3 doubles 8-0 and added an 8-1 win at the #1 match.
 
Annie Orvis (Rochester, Minn/Schaeffer Academy) won her #2 singles match with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep to take the fourth team point for UNW. Taylar Smith (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) followed with another 6-0, 6-0 sweep to clinch the match for Northwestern. Once more, the Eagles won the remaining four matches to complete the 9-0 sweep.

Up next for the Eagles is a return home to take on Hamline University at 5:00 P.M. this Tuesday, April 26 at the Johnson Tennis Complex.
