ELMHURST, Ill. – The University of Northwestern men's lacrosse team opened their 2022 season on Friday at Elmhurst University. The Eagles scored seven times but fell to the Bluejays 17-7.
Elmhurst opened the game strong with seven goals in the opening quarter. In the second, however, Northwestern scored back-to-back to cut into the Bluejay's lead. After each team scored once more, Elmhurst regained their momentum to score another seven in a row.
Even with the Bluejays pulling ahead, the Eagles kept fighting. UNW scored four of the final six goals, but the rally would fall short as Northwestern was defeated 17-7 in the opener.
Isaac Geurink (Wausau, Wis./Wausau East) and
Sam Moses (Wasau, Wis./Wasau East) led the Eagles with two goals scored each in the game.
Khoa Vu (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee),
Thomas Alderson (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead), and
Bryce Schmidgall (Hancock, Minn./Hancock) each added a goal of their own for UNW in the contest.
Vu led the Eagles with two caused turnovers in the game. Schuffenhauer and
Robert McHenry (Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) each had seven groundballs for the team high.
Next up for Northwestern is their home opener on Saturday, March 12, at 1:00 P.M. as the Eagles host Augustana College.
