ST. PAUL, Minn.- The University of Northwestern Men's Lacrosse team welcomed spring back to campus as they hosted the first event at Reynolds Field since November. The Eagles hosted Augustana College on a chilly Saturday afternoon and fell to the Vikings, 9-4.
The Eagles jumped out to an early lead as they scored the first goal of the afternoon.
Isaac Geurink (Wausau, Wis./Wausau East) scored with 13:26 left in the first quarter. After taking a 1-0 lead, the Eagles saw the Vikings respond with five straight goals to take a 5-1 lead.
With 4:00 minutes left in the first quarter the Eagles would cut into the deficit. Geurink assisted on a
Sam Moses (Wasau, Wis./Wasau East) goal and the first quarter ended with Augustana leading UNW 5-2.
The Eagles would not score in the second and third quarters while the Vikings would add three goals taking an 8-2 lead into the game's final quarter.
The fourth quarter saw the Eagles' offense start to heat up a bit.
Bryce Schmidgall (Hancock, Minn./Hancock) scored a goal off of a
Khoa Vu (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) assist, and
Joseph Kalski (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) would score an unassisted goal.
Augustana would score one more goal before the game was over, and the game would end with a final score of 9-4.
The Vikings outshot the Eagles 45-25, with the Vikings having 23 on goal and the Eagles putting 14 shots on goal.
Robert McHenry (Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) had 14 saves for the Eagles.
UNW will be back in action on Wednesday, March 16
th as they host Northland College at Reynolds Field.
