ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference announced their Women's Indoor Track and Field postseason awards on Wednesday and the University of Northwestern was well represented.
Leading the way was the fabulous freshman,
Deanna Trucksess (Spirit Lake, Iowa/Spirit Lake). Trucksess had a historic rookie season for the Eagles winning multiple races and breaking a school record, and she capped off her season by winning the 2022 Track Athlete of the Meet award at the UMAC Championship. Trucksess swept the sprinting events at the UMAC Championship Meet, winning the 60m, 200m, and 400m races. Trucksess also led the Eagles' 4x200 relay to a second place finish, and the 4x400 relay to a third place finish.
The other all conference award winner for the Eagles was
Skyla Thompson (Sturgeon Lake, Minn./Moose Lake). Thompson turned in her best performance of the season and won the pole vault event. Thompson vaulted 2.40m to win the event. Thompson is also a freshman and was named All-Conference for the first time in her career.
Micah Ngafua (Andover, Minn.) won a UMAC Sportsmanship award for the Eagles. The freshman has been an excellent teammate and leader all season and is a great example of how to Compete With Purpose.
The indoor season is complete, and the Eagles are now preparing for the outdoor track season.
