BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The University of Northwestern men's tennis team battled the Buena Vista Beavers and Gustavus Adolphus Gusties on Saturday. The Eagles swept the Beavers 9-0, but fell 9-0 to the Gusties.
In doubles against the Beavers,
Jack Geurkink (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) and
Adam Ryerse (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) won the #1 match 8-4.
Stewart Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Homeschool) and
Jacob Weddle (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) teamed up to win #2 Doubles 8-2.
Darin Rupp (Sioux Falls, S.D./Roosevelt) and
Collin Hemann (Newton, Iowa/Newton) wrapped up the doubles competition with an 8-2 win in the #3 match.
In singles at BVU, Morrell took the #1 match 6-2, 6-0. Guerkink won #2 Singles 6-0, 6-1. Weddle earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at the #3 spot.
Isaac Velgersdyk (Savage, Minn./Southwest Christian) won the #4 match 6-1, 6-3. At #5 Singles, Rupp earned an Eagle point with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Joel Fremling (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) closed out the competition with a 7-5, 6-1 win at the #6 match.
Against the Gusties, the Eagles fell 3-0 in the doubles competition. In singles, GCU took all the matches en route to a 9-0 win.
Next up for Northwestern is a trip to Florida for matches in warmer weather. The Eagles first take on Kings College on Monday, March 7, starting at 7:00 P.M. eastern time.
