ASHLAND, Wis. - The Northwestern men's basketball team traveled to take on the Lumberjacks of Northland College Friday night. The Eagles started off both halves on runs to help take home the victory 84-63. UNW improves their record to 16-6 (10-1 UMAC) on the season.
Northwestern burst out of the gates early, with four quick buckets to build an 8-0 lead. However, the Lumberjacks did not let this early run stunt them, as they found themselves up by one with a little less than 10 minutes left in the half.
Noah Alm (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) answered back by draining his second three of the night to give the lead back to the Eagles, 21-19. UNW never saw the lead leave their sights as they were able to close out the half leading 41-34.
Northwestern was feeling it in the first half as they shot 48.5 percent overall while hitting 42.9 percent of their shots from beyond the arc. They were also dominant on the boards as they outrebounded the Lumberjacks 23-17, including six offensive boards that resulted in eight points.
The Eagles once again started out hot as they outscored the Lumberjacks 13-5 in the first three and a half minutes of the second half. They never looked back as they continued to outpower Northland throughout the rest of the game to take the contest 84-63.
UNW put on a shooting clinic as they finished the game shooting 47.5 percent from the field, 38.7 percent from the three-point line, and 72 percent from the charity stripe. They also continued their dominance on the offensive boards, resulting in a total of 23 second chance points.
Leading the team in points was
Henry Fahnbulleh (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) who finished with 22 points and nine rebounds with Alm just trailing him with 21 points of his own.
Caleb Hoilien (Minneapolis, Minn./Hope Academy) had himself a game as he put in 14 points and brought down five rebounds. Leading the team in the board category was
Owen Boerema (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) who brought down 14 rebounds alongside his seven points.
Northwestern is back at it again tomorrow, this time against the Yellowjackets of the University of Wisconsin-Superior. That game will be taking place at Superior at 4:45 p.m. For all things UNW Men's Basketball, fans can follow along at www.unweagles.com or on Twitter and Instagram at @unwmbb.
