Men’s Basketball Falls 80-65 in Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa – University of Northwestern Men's Basketball traveled to Univeristy of Dubuque for a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles fell 80-65 to the Spartans, who improved to 9-2 on the season.
 
In the first half, Dubuque outshot Northwestern from the field 46.4 percent to 37.9 percent to go up 35-28 at halftime. UNW shot well from three-point range in the first half, making 5-of-11 for 45.5 percent while the Spartans struggle from long range, making 2-of-9 for 22.2 percent.
 
In the second half, the Eagles cut the Spartan lead down to three points in the first minute, but Dubuque answered with a layup and a pair of three's in the next couple minutes to go up by 11. Northwestern would get back within five points down 51-46 with just under 13 minutes remaining, but the Spartans went on an eight-point run to go up by 13. Dubuque's shooting success surged to 61.5 percent from the field in the second half and made 7-of-11 from three-point range to power them to the 80-65 win.
 
Points off of turnovers and fast break points were key in the game. The Spartans scored 19 points off of turnovers to the Eagles' four. Dubuque had 13 fast break points to UNW's three.
 
Caleb Hoilien (Minneapolis, Minn./Hope Academy) led the Eagles with 18 points on 8-for-12 shooting and had five rebounds. Kyle Kaemingk (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) scored 14 points, making 4-of-7 from three-point range, and led the team with six rebounds. Henry Fahnbulleh (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) had 12 points on 6-for-11 shooting.
 
Up next, Northwestern will travel to De Pere, Wisconsin for a pair of road games at St. Norbert's Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament, first taking on the hosting Green Knights at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 29.
