NEW ULM, Minn.- The University of Northwestern Men's Soccer team completed their 2022 campaign on Saturday when they traveled to New Ulm to play against Martin Luther in the final game of the season. The Eagles dropped the season finale 1-0 to the Knights.
Despite the loss, UNW controlled a majority of the possession and the scoring chances in the contest. The Eagles outshot the Knights 9-4 in a game where offense was limited. The entire first half came and went without a goal from either team. Martin Luther would finally break through and find a goal in the 55
th minute.
Andrew Skoglund (Northfield, Minn./Skoglund Academy) got the start in net once again for the Eagles and made three saves. Nathan Martinez led the offense with three shots in the game while
Alejandro Alfaro (Murrieta, Calif./Vista Murrieta) added two shots.
Tim DeLoye (Wausau, Wisc./Wausau West),
Jonathan-Thomas Olsen (Modesto, Calif./James Enochs High),
Mitchell Pfeifer (Blaine, Minn./Avail Academy), and Luis Villalobos all registered a shot in the contest as well.
The Eagles 2022 season has officially come to an end. Last week, the Eagles played their final home game of the season against Wisconsin-Superior, and before the game Head Coach
Greg Wheaton and his coaching staff honored the three seniors on the team. Those three seniors wrapped up their Eagle careers on Saturday and Coach Wheaton and his staff appreciate all these seniors have done for this program throughout the years. UNW Men's Soccer will say goodbye to
Andrew Skoglund (Northfield, Minn./Skoglund Academy),
Peter Skoglund (Northfield, Minn./Skoglund Academy), and
Cade Looney (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville High School). Congratulations to those three on fantastic careers with UNW Men's Soccer.
