Pipers Edge Past Eagles at Reynolds Field

ST. PAUL, Minn.- The University of Northwestern Women's Soccer team took their two game winning streak to Reynolds Field on Monday night to take on the Hamline University Pipers. The game marked the Eagles' last nonconference game of the season as they dropped the contest 2-0 to the visiting Pipers.

The contest was highly contested from start to finish. In the first half, Hamline outshot the Eagles by a thin margin, 8-5. However, the defenses on each side were the story throughout the opening frame. Despite each team getting some shots, there were very few high quality scoring opportunities from each side. Each team's midfielders and defenders were on point and made getting an offensive attack together very difficult. The game was locked in a scoreless tie at the half.

In the second half, the Eagles started to take control of possession a little bit more. UNW outshot their opponents 13-8 in the second half and put together an unrelenting at times attack in the final frame. However, due to a strong back line and a hot goaltender, Hamline's defense bent but did not break. The Eagles could not break through for that first goal. Instead, it was the Pipers who turned defense into offense on two separate occasions to break the door down and get the only two goals of the game. The Eagles dropped the hard fought contest 2-0.

The Eagles outshot the Pipers 18-16 and had a significantly higher number of shots land on net (10-4). Reagan Flaschberger (Shoreview, Minn./Centennial) got the start in net while Delaynee Bohatta (Hammond, WI/St. Croix Central) also played between the pipes and picked up two saves. Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School) led the offense with five shots, while Megan Kohrt (Monona, Wis./Homeschool) had four of her own, and Haley Mersberger (Kiel, Wisc./Elkhart Lake Glenbeulah) and Mya Chan (Brandon, S.D./Homeschool) had three shots apiece as well.

The Eagles will jump right back into action as they return to UMAC play on Wednesday, October 5th. The Eagles will travel to square off with Wisconsin-Superior in what will mark a rematch of last year's UMAC Championship Game which Superior won 3-2. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 P.M.
