ST. PAUL, Minn. – No. 7 University of Northwestern Volleyball hosted North Central University for a conference contest in the Ericksen Center. The Eagles cruised to their eighth UMAC win in as many contests, sweeping the Rams 3-0. Not only undefeated in conference play, UNW has yet to drop a set to a UMAC opponent this season, going 24-0 in sets played.
The Eagles took the first set 25-16 to take a 1-0 lead. The Rams kept within reach of Northwestern through the first half, trailing by just four at 14-10. At that point, UNW rattled off six in a row to take a 20-10 lead to help take the set.
In set two, Northwestern won nine of the first 10 points to go up 9-1. The Eagles reached an 11-point lead at 17-6. The Rams then won six of the next seven cut their deficit to six at 18-12. UNW answered by taking the next four and then traded points to win the set 25-15.
North Central took an 8-7 lead in the third set, looking to extend the match. The Eagles proceeded to go on an 18-6 run to win the set 25-14 and the match 3-0.
Abby Glanzer (Brandon, S.D./Sioux Falls Christian) led the Eagles with 11 kills in the match to go with 13 digs.
Marley Aune (New Brighton, Minn./Avail Academy) had nine kills on .300 hitting with three block assists.
Ari Schmidt (Albany, Minn./Holdingford) hit .462 with seven kills for the Eagles.
Caitlyn Pruis (Sioux Falls, S.D./Sioux Falls Christian),
Kiera Brown (Columbia Falls, Mont./Columbia Falls), and Glanzer each had four total blocks in the match, with Pruis and Glanzer each adding three aces.
Felicia Luther (Victoria, Minn./Southwest Christian) led the Eagles with 19 assists.
Grace Strickfaden (Norwood-Young America, Minn./NYA) followed with 14.
Marylyn Schroyer (Ft. Collins, Colo./Ft. Collins) had a match-high 18 digs.
UNW held NCU to a .028 hitting percentage. The Eagles out-aced the Rams 7-1.
Up next, No. 7 Northwestern hosts the University of Minnesota Morris for Camper Appreciation Night. The Eagles and Cougars will compete at 7:00 P.M. this Friday, October 14 in the Ericksen Center.
