NEW ULM, Minn. – No. 3 University of Northwestern Volleyball took on two conference opponents on the road Saturday with matches against Martin Luther and Bethany Lutheran. The Eagles swept both the Knights and Vikings 3-0 to improve to 15-1 on the year and 5-0 in the UMAC.
In the second match of the day,
Marylyn Schroyer (Ft. Collins, Colo./Ft. Collins) had a phenomenal performance with 24 digs for 8.00 per set. With that incredible stat line, the senior libero broke past 2,227 career digs to become the Eagles' all-time career digs leader, surpassing 2016 NCAA DIII National Player of the Year and all-around legendary alumna Lindsey Peterson for the most in program history.
Match One: Martin Luther
In their first match of the day against the Knights, the Eagles started strong with a 25-15 first set win.
Martin Luther jumped ahead to a 12-5 lead in set two. Northwestern then answered with an unbelievable 12-point run to jump ahead 17-12. UNW proceeded to win eight of the final 13 points to take the set 25-17.
After their remarkable rally in the second set, the Eagles kept up their momentum and took the third set by an 11-point margin at 25-14 to win the match in a 3-0 sweep.
Match Two: Bethany Lutheran
After winning in New Ulm, the Eagles traveled to Mankato to take on the Vikings. The opening set was closely contested, with the Vikings hanging in to tie it up at 16-16. From that point, though, Northwestern won nine of the next 12 points to take the set 25-19.
In a déjà vu moment from their first match, the Eagles found themselves trailing in set two, falling behind 7-1 early. Once again, though, UNW responded with a statement run as the Eagles won seven-consecutive points to take an 8-7 lead. From there, Northwestern returned to form as they ran ahead to a 25-17 set win.
In set three, the Eagles were firing on all cylinders. UNW's lead grew to 12 points late in the set, with Northwestern ultimately winning it 25-14 to sweep the match 3-0.

No. 3 Northwestern travels to Northfield on Wednesday, October 5, for their ninth-consecutive away match. The Eagles will take on the St. Olaf Oles at 7:00 P.M. at Bob Gelle Court in the Skoglund Center.
