RAMSEY, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's golf team defeated North Central on Thursday by a score of 372-472, competing on The Links at Northfork. The Eagles finished the day with the top seven scores between themselves and the Rams.
Claire Haakenson (Albertville, Minn./St. Michael Albertville) led the way for UNW, as the freshman shot an 84 to lead the pack by a remarkable 11 strokes.
Mattie Krause (Clear Lake, Iowa/Clear Lake) followed with the second best score on the day, finishing with a 95.
Natalie Wilcox (Danville, Iowa./Danville) shot a 96 to place third overall.
Kirsten Darling (Coon Rapids, Minn./Legacy Christian Academy) followed right behind with a 97 for fourth overall.
Kelly Van Den Bussche (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) rounded out the top five for both UNW and overall with a 99.
The Eagles also had three golfers compete for the individual awards.
Grace Nyhus (Henning, Minn./Henning) shot a 98 for sixth overall, Sam Burkhart shot 99 for seventh overall, and
Grace Landvik (St. Paul, Minn./Concordia Academy) shot 110 to round out the UNW competitors.
Northwestern next competes at the UMAC Preview Tournament on Monday, September 6, at 10 a.m. in Becker at the Pebble Creek Golf Course.
