Box Score NEW ULM, Minn.- The UNW Women's Soccer Team is off to a red hot start in 2021 and continued that trend on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles did not allow a goal as they cruised to a 4-0 win over Martin Luther on the road.
Speaking of red hot starts,
Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School) continued her phenomenal start to the season on Tuesday. The sophomore scored three more goals against Martin Luther to push her season total to nine goals in eight games, and eight goals in four conference games. The two-time consecutive reigning UMAC Offensive Player of the Week put on a show once again.
It did not take long for Moeller to light up the scoreboard. The sophomore took a pass from
RJ Mullin (Temecula, Calif./Rancho Christian) in the 10
th minute and scored to give the Eagles the early lead. This was Mullin's second assist of the season.
Five minutes later, it was Moeller again. This time the assist was credited to
Maia Ellenburg (Winona, Minn./Winona) as Moeller fired the shot into the high, right corner for her second goal of the game. The Eagles would enter halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Moeller wasn't done. The forward took a pass from
Amanda Kocurek (North Branch, Minn./North Branch), who was credited with the assist, and went to the high left corner this time to score her third goal of the game and to complete the hat trick. This was the second hat trick of Moeller's career, as she did it last spring against Minnesota-Morris.
In the 70
th minute, the Eagles put the nail in the coffin courtesy of
Samantha Kothari (Lacrosse, Wis./West Salem). Kothari went to the low, left corner for the goal. It was a big moment for the sophomore, as it was the first goal of her career. The 4-0 lead would hold until the final whistle.
The shot total was even throughout the match, as the Eagles had the slight edge 15-14. The shots on goal category was slightly more one sided, as UNW led 10-4.
Ellie Fryer (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) had four saves in net for Northwestern, and led the way to the shutout.
The Eagles move to 4-0 in UMAC play and look to stay hot against Bethany Lutheran in Mankato on Saturday, October 2
