MORRIS, Minn.- The UNW Women's Soccer team finished a challenging week as they squared off with Minnesota-Morris on the road on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles were competing in their third game of the week, and playing in a back to back having defeated Crown the night before. Fatigue was not an issue for the Eagles, as they defeated the Cougars 2-0.
Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School) is the reigning UMAC Offensive Player of the Week, and is making a strong case for the award again with her performance this week. After scoring a goal in last night's match, the sophomore was at it again. Moeller scored both goals for the Eagles (14
th and 49
th minutes) to give her a team leading six goals on the season.
Moeller's goal in the 14
th minute came off of an assist from senior
Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Home School) after the Eagles had forced a turnover. The goal was a strike from about 18 yards out on the right side. The 2
nd Eagle goal came in the 49
th minute and was knocked in after a ricochet off the goal keeper.
The Eagles dominated the shot category. UNW had 15 shots, and Minnesota-Morris had three. Eight of the Eagles' shots were on goal, and the Cougars' did not register a shot on goal.
Moeller had seven shots, and
Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Home School) had three shots in addition to her assist.
RJ Mullin (Temecula, Calif./Rancho Christian),
Amanda Kocurek (North Branch, Minn./North Branch),
Kaylin Strike (Hanover, Minn./Buffalo), and
Maia Ellenburg (Winona, Minn./Winona) all had one shot a piece.
Ellie Fryer (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) is credited with her first shutout of the season.
The win pushes UNW to a 3-0 UMAC record so far in 2021. The Eagles will look to stay undefeated in conference play as they travel to Martin Luther on Tuesday, September 28
