Eagles Battle River Falls Falcons at UNW Football Frenzy

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern football team hosted the University of Wisconsin River Falls on Saturday night for their annual Football Frenzy game. While some prospective students earned scholarships in the halftime field goal challenge, the on-field action for UNW was less successful as the Eagles fell 71-13 to Falcons.

UNW found the end zone on their first offensive position of the day, driving downfield in 10 plays that culminated in a 1-yard touchdown run by Jeremiah Staten (South Elgin, Ill./Wheaton Academy).

The Eagles later scored again on their first position of the second quarter. On a 3rd and 10 from their own 23, Collin Currier (Waconia, Minn./Waconia High School) found Isaac Loe (Cottonwood, Minn./Lakeview) for 15 yards to extend the drive. Three plays later, Loe broke free on a 3rd and 12 and Currior hit him again in stride deep downfield with a 62-yard bomb for another Eagle touchdown.

Currier finished his day 12-for-20 for 125 yards and a touchdown. Loe led the Eagles with 106 yards receiving on four catches. Caleb Sieben (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) had a team-high seven catches for UNW.

The defense was led by Luke Malamisuro (Cambridge Isanti, Minn./Cambridge Isanti), who garnered 16 total tackles, eight solo and eight assisted, along with 1.5 tackles for loss. Jacob Emley (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter) had an interception in the third quarter deep in the Eagles own territory to go along with 12 tackles on the night.

On special teams, Beau Burk (Ogilvie, Minn. / Ogilvie/) returned five kickoffs for 129 yards with a long of 37.

Up next for Northwestern is a trip to Holland, Michigan for a road contest with Hope College next Saturday, September 25. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. CST.
