RICHARDSON, Texas – The University of Northwestern Women's Tennis team traveled from St. Paul down to Richardson, Texas, for the opening round of the NCAA National Championships. The Eagles faced Millsaps College on Thursday, falling 5-0 to the Majors.
Each of the UNW doubles teams won a trio of games, but the Majors took the doubles matches to go up 3-0 in team points.
In singles, the Millsaps got their fourth team point with a win at the #1 match. The fifth point followed with a win at the #3 match to advance Millsaps to the next round. The remaining matches stopped play the moment the fifth point was won, so the remaining four matches went unfinished.
While the Eagles 2021 season may have ended, it was nonetheless a remarkably successful one for the program. Northwestern went undefeated in conference play at 6-0 to win their regular season conference championship, just the second as outright champs and the fourth overall in program history. UNW then went on to punch their ticket to the NCAA National Tournament with a 5-2 win in the conference tournament championship match, winning the fourth tournament title in program history.
