Box Score 3 MOBILE, Ala. – After breaking the single season wins record and finishing the season with a record of 20-6, the University of Northwestern Men's Tennis team was able to end their season by getting an invitation to the NCCAA National Championship.
With a different team match format and several rule changes from the Eagles' NCAA Division III matches, the Eagles had to make some adjustments going into their final three matches of the season facing all Division II and NAIA teams, most of which give scholarships to their athletes.
In all three matches, the Eagles fell with a team score of 0-4. The first round featured the Eagles competing against Dallas Baptist University. The Eagles' highlights included a win from the one doubles duo of
Matthew Wedin (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) and
Davis Pfaff (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and an unfinished match from
Jack Geurkink (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) in which he led 6-4, 1-1.
In the second match of the first round, the Eagles took on Campbellsville University where Wedin and Pfaff were up a break, serving for the match at 5-4 when their doubles play was stopped.
After falling in both matches of the first round, the Eagles met Oakland City University in the consolation where the #2 doubles duo of
Adam Ryerse (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) and Geurkink played their best doubles match of the season to win 6-0.
With the Eagles traveling back home to Roseville for the offseason, the Eagles finish the season with a record of 20-9.
