Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Emily Ojambo

Three Eagles Score in Friday Night Showdown

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team came out ready and determined to continue their four game win streak as they traveled to Crown College to take on the Storm on Friday evening. Three Eagles scored, while Ellie Fryer (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) earned her fourth shutout on the season.

UNW improves to 9-5 overall and 5-2 in conference play. With one more regular season game left this spring, Northwestern sits third overall in the conference.

The first half was underway and the Eagles wasted no time taking four shots right off the bat, pressuring the goalie immensely. In the 17th minute of play, Danielle Roberts (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) found the back of the net (seventh goal) to give UNW the upper hand. For the rest of the half, the Eagles controlled most of the ball taking 14 shots to the Storm's two. Three first half corner kicks helped continue the offensive mind of Northwestern.

Goalie Ellie Fryer (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) did not have to make a single save in the first half, due to UNW's strong defense.

Five minutes into the second half, Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Home School) found Amanda Kocurek (North Branch, Minn./North Branch) open to score Northwestern's second goal (Kocurek's third goal) of the night. Barely five minutes later Taylor Brinkman (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) sent a ball (on a free kick) for Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School) to run onto in the box, to score her seventh of goal of the season.

The Eagles ended the game with 26 shots (17 shots-on-goal). Danielle Roberts (Hastings, Minn./Hastings), Taylor Brinkman (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) and Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School) each recorded 10 shots on the night.

UNW's next contest will be this coming Tuesday as they host the Bethany Lutheran Vikings at Reynolds field, kickoff set for 5 pm.
