ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team hosted the Bethany Lutheran College Vikings for their last regular season matchup of the 2021 spring season. With a scoreless first half of play, the Eagles gave up two goals late in the second to fall 0-2 to the Vikings.
UNW falls to 9-6 overall and 5-3 in the UMAC. Northwestern sits in fourth place in the regular season standings and awaits their playoff opponent.
In the first half of play, the Eagles controlled most of the half and had eight shots to Bethany's two. Megan Roberts led the first half with three shots. Goalkeeper
Ellie Fryer (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) did not have much action in the first, only having to make one save.
UNW kept control for the first 20 minutes of the second half, taking six shots to the Vikings one. In the 78th minute, Bethany scored their first goal of the night. Three minutes later, BLC had their second goal.
The clock ran out with the Eagles unable to score a goal, coming up empty. Northwestern controlled the shots category, 20-7 and three corner kicks compared to none for Bethany.
Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School) had nine shots for the Eagles (one shot-on-goal) while
Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Home School) and
Taylor Brinkman (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) each had five (one and two shots-on-goal, respectively).
