ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern St. Paul Women's Lacrosse team battled the Augsburg University Auggies on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles rallied in the second half, outscoring the Auggies 9-5, but ultimately fell 15-14 in the MWLC matchup.
Both offenses were on fire right out the gate as both the Eagles and Auggies scored twice within the first 2 minutes and six seconds. From there on though, Augsburg went on a scoring run to take a 10-5 into the half.
The Auggies scored early in the second half to increase their lead to six. However, the Eagles still had a lot of fight left in them. With their backs to the wall, Northwestern rallied to rattle off seven consecutive goals to take a 12-11 lead with 13:02 remaining in the game.
UNW and Augsburg traded goals for the next eight minutes with the Eagles taking a 14-13 lead with 5 minutes remaining. Unfortunately, the Auggies managed to score twice as time wound down to take the contest 15-14.
Abby Scheel (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) and Talia Sherry (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) led the Eagles with four points each with both scoring four goals. Samantha Wiebold (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) followed with three points on two goal and an assist. Cara Smith (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) scored twice for UNW, and the duo of Emma Ruegemer (Cold Spring, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) and Emma Snyder (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) added a goal each for the Eagles.
