ST. PAUL, Minn. - The University of Northwestern St. Paul Men's Tennis team cruised to a pair of UMAC victories on Saturday, winning a home match 9-0 over Bethany Lutheran before defeating Crown College 9-0 on the road.
The day started with the Eagles hosting the Vikings in their first home match of the season. Davis Pfaff (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and Matthew Wedin (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) earned a hard-fought 8-6 win at #1 doubles. The Eagles cruised to 8-1 and 8-0 wins at #2 and #3 doubles, respectively.
Up 3-0, the momentum kept up into singles, where Jack Geurkink (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) earned the match-winning fifth team point with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the #5 match.
After sweeping the Vikings in their home opener for their 13th win of the year, the Eagles traveled to take on the Storm. Northwestern didn't lose a single game against Crown, sweeping the Storm 9-0 with a 96-0 games record. Stewart Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Homeschool) earned the match-winning fifth point, improving to a perfect 13-0 on the season in singles competition and improving the Eagles to 14-1 on the year.
The Eagles dominated in both matches, winning a combined 192 games to their opponents 15 on the day.
Up next for Northwestern is another match with Crown College on Tuesday, April 13, at 7pm at the Johnson Tennis Courts.
