LAKEVILLE, Minn. - With just one loss on the season, the University of Northwestern St. Paul Men's Tennis team looked to improve to a record of 15-1 Wednesday night at the Lakeville LifeTime Fitness tennis courts.
The Eagles exited doubles play with 3 wins, highlighted by the work of Adam Ryerse (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) and Jack Geurkink (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) at #2 doubles, winning 8-0.
With only two more victories needed to clinch the match headed into singles play, Davis Pfaff (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) (#1 singles) and Matthew Wedin (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) (#4 singles) clinched the team victory, winning 6-0, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-2 respectively.
Following Wedin's match clinching point, the Eagles picked up four more wins from Adam Ryerse (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) (#2 singles), Stewart Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Homeschool) (#3 singles), Jack Geurkink (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) (#5 singles), and Caleb Quernmoen (Becker, Minn./Becker) (#6 singles). With the four additional singles victories, the Eagles closed the match with a 9-0 victory.
With their 15th win of the season, the Eagles tied the program record of wins in a season that the 2019 team set. Northwestern has eight games remaining in their regular season schedule to surpass the previous record.
The men's team has a quick turnaround as they look to battle Gustavus Adolphus and Bethany Lutheran in a doubleheader on Thursday night.
