Women's Soccer Scores Three to Beat North Central

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team hosted their first game of the 2021 spring season Saturday evening against the North Central University Rams. Freshman, Kaylin Strike (Hanover, Minn./Buffalo) scored her first collegiate goal, to lead the Eagles to a 3-0 win.

The Eagles improve to 5-5 on the season and 1-2 in UMAC play. UNW had a total of 36 shots to NCU's two.

Northwestern began the game with a few shots on goal to put North Central on their toes. Five straight corner kicks for the Eagles helped propel them to their first goal of the game. Kaylin Strike (Hanover, Minn./Buffalo) found the back of the net from inside the box to put UNW up 1-0 in the twentieth minute of play.

North Central played tough defense for the rest of the half, allowing no more goals to be scored. The Eagles had 18 shots to the Rams zero in the first half of play. Northwestern had nine corner kicks to North Central's one.

The second half brought more of the same for the Eagles as they took seven shots before RJ Mullin (Temecula, Calif./Rancho Christian) scored from the twenty-yard line in the sixty-eighth minute of play.

The rest of the half consisted of UNW possession and domination in the Eagles home opener. In the final seconds of the game, Amanda Kocurek (North Branch, Minn./North Branch) found herself on a breakaway to score in the bottom left corner to score the final goal for Northwestern to end the game 3-0.

The Eagles finished the game with 36 shots and 13 shots-on-goal. Kaylin Strike (Hanover, Minn./Buffalo) led the team with nine shots and one goal. Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Home School) and Amanda Kocurek (North Branch, Minn./North Branch) (one goal) each had seven shots.
