Courtney Schmidt Snags Career High 16 Points Against Bethany Lutheran College

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Northwestern hosted Bethany Lutheran College in Saturday evening action in the Ericksen Center for the UMAC Semifinals. The Eagles had a hard time scoring all game but continued to fight, ultimately falling to the Vikings, 50-67.
 
UNW started the game with a layup from Megan Roberts (Greeley, Colo./Dayspring Christian Academy). The Eagles played a hard fought first quarter. Two steals by Jordan Sauve (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) were some highlights as Northwestern ended this quarter behind by three, 13-16.
 
The second quarter started with a bucket from Megan Roberts (Greeley, Colo./Dayspring Christian Academy) and a jumper from Jordan Sauve (Blaine, Minn./Blaine). The Eagles continued to fight. In the second quarter the Eagles netted two fast break points and the bench collected five points for the team. Northwestern ended this quarter down 24-40. UNW was unable to make shots as the Vikings could not miss.
 
UNW started the third quarter with a drive to the paint from Kelsea Lund (Madison, Minn./La qui Parle Valley). Brooklyn DeKam (Edgerton, Minn./Southwest MN Christian) downed a triple from behind the arc building energy for the team in another competitive quarter. The third quarter ended 57-40 for the Vikings.
 
Courtney Schmidt (Spring Valley, Minn./Kingsland) put the first points of the fourth quarter on the board for the Eagles with a free throw. Schmidt followed with a steal and Brooklyn DeKam (Edgerton, Minn./Southwest MN Christian) followed with another steal. Courtney Schmidt (Spring Valley, Minn./Kingsland) showcased talent again with a bucket from behind the arc assisted by Megan Roberts (Greeley, Colo./Dayspring Christian Academy). The Eagles played a well fought game but fell short 50-67.
 
Courtney Schmidt (Spring Valley, Minn./Kingsland) led the team with her career high of 16 points. Megan Roberts (Greeley, Colo./Dayspring Christian Academy) added 11 points and brought down 9 boards, Brooklyn DeKam (Edgerton, Minn./Southwest MN Christian) netted eight points.
 
The Eagles played well in the UMAC Tournament, their record now 14-5. The Eagles will be back in action on Friday for the NCCAA Regional play-in game against Trinity International University (Illinois) in the Ericksen Center, tip-off at 5:00 pm.
