ST. PAUL, Minn -- Northwestern hosted North Central University in Saturday nights game in the Ericksen Center. This was Northwestern's second game in the UMAC Tournament after advancing by defeating Martin Luther College 71-60 Thursday night. The semifinal round started close between the Eagles and Rams but ultimately UNW came out on top, 67-51.
The first half started for the Eagles with a layup from
Caleb Waldeck (Newhall, Calif./Hart High). Halfway into the first half Northwestern started to break away keeping the lead the rest of the half. Hard work from UNW paid off along with impressive defensive efforts. The Eagles shot well overall scoring 53 percent from field and 67 percent from the free throw line. Northwestern ended the half up 37-29.
The second half started with a layup from
Henry Fahnbulleh (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and a block from
Noah Alm (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake). The Eagles kept the lead the rest of the game, their biggest lead being 18 points against the Rams. UNW shot 75 percent from the free throw line. The team ended with 40 of their 67 points in the paint. Northwestern won 67-51 against the Rams advancing to the UMAC Championship game Monday night.
Henry Fahnbulleh (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) led the team with a double-double, career high of 24 points and 12 rebounds.
Kyle Kaemingk (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) added 20 points and eight rebounds.
The game also highlighted
Noah Alm (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) scoring his 1,000th point. Noah added nine points, eight rebounds, a block and a steal.
The Eagles will be back in action Monday against the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota, tip-off at 7:00 pm.
