Northwestern vs Buena Vista
Northwestern competed against Buena Vista University today at the White Bear Lake Lifetime Fitness Courts. UNW jumped out to a 2-0 lead as BVU had to forfeit their #3 doubles and #6 singles points. The Eagles used that early lead to propel themselves to a 4-0 as the doubles duos of Davis Pfaff (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and Matthew Wedin (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) along with and Tyrus Studer (Rapid City, S.D./Stevens) and Stewart Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Homeschool) both won 8-1.
Heading into singles play, the Eagles just needed to secure one match to win the team match. Studer rose to the occasion, winning 6-0, 6-0. After the match clinching point, Tyrus said, "It was a great week of practice and it felt good to get back and get my two team points after being sidelined last week."
Following the Eagles' quick clinching match point, Jack Geurkink (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) also closed his match winning 6-0, 6-0; and Adam Ryerse (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) clinched the 7th point, winning 6-1, 6-1.
One of the highlights of the match came at #5 singles, where Zach Revenig netted his first collegiate win, playing a very controlled 6-2, 6-0 match.
The final point came down to #1 singles where Davis cruised to a 6-1 first set, and battled to win the match with a late set break 7-5.
