Box Score DUBUQUE, Iowa. – The University of Northwestern St. Paul Football team opened their 2021 spring season at Loras College on Saturday night, falling 61-13.
The Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead late in the first quarter. With a third and goal at the six-yard line, Ryan Flanigan (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) threw a perfect pass to the right corner of the end zone for Jamon Howard (Fargo, N.D./Fargo South), who hauled it in for the first touchdown of the season for UNW.
Howard again scored for the Eagles late in the fourth. On a first down from their own 10-yard line, the junior flew past Loras' coverage and quarterback Collin Currier (Waconia, Minn./Waconia High School) found him downfield as Howard outran the pursing Duhawks for the 90-yard touchdown.
Bradly Kulinski (Milwaukee, Wis./Martin Luther) led the Eagle defense with 12 total tackles on the night, 10 of which were solo. The sophomore also had one of two Eagle interceptions, picking off the Duhawks on their first offensive drive of the game. Bryce Teckmeyer (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Christian) had the other Eagle pick, intercepting the Duhawks early in the second quarter.
Next up for Northwestern is their home opener on Saturday, April 3. Kickoff is at 6pm.
