ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern St. Paul Men's Lacrosse team went toe to toe with a strong Elmhurst University Bluejays squad on Saturday morning. The Eagles showed their mettle but fell short 12-9.
Chase Marlenee (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) scored five goals for UNW in the contest. The senior scored the opening goal of the match just one minute and 14 seconds in to five Northwestern the early lead. Marlenee helped spur the Eagles' comeback attempt late in the game with back-to-back goals 62 seconds apart to cut the Bluejay lead to 11-8 with seven minutes remaining.
Noah Vander Kooi (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) had the second most UNW points with four, trailing only Marlenee's six. The senior led the Eagles with two assists and added a pair of goals on the day.
The duo of Keller Stephens (Lino Lakes, Minn./Mounds View) and Evan Anderson (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) both found the net for the Eagles in the contest.
