Eagles Volleyball Finishes BLC in Three

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's volleyball team competed in another conference match on Thursday night against Bethany Lutheran College. The Eagles continued their undefeated conference run winning in three; 25-7, 25-15, 25-16.

UNW continues their five game win streak in the 2021 spring season. They will compete in four more conference matchups and two scrimmages yet this month.

The match began with a five-point streak for the Eagles before a Vikings point. Northwestern went on another seven-point run to go up 12-1 on BLC. With a 25-7 finish, UNW recorded 15 kills with a .417 average.

Set two was much of the same as the Eagles went up large on Bethany Lutheran. Later in the set points went back and forth before Northwestern took set two on a Vikings error. UNW recorded 11 kills to BLC's four.

In set three, the Eagles capitalized on Vikings errors. Kills by Kalley Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./Central Christian) and Caitlyn Pruis (Sioux Falls, SD./Sioux Falls Christian) helped Northwestern finish things off. A six-point run later on in the match gave UNW their victory, closing out the match, 25-16.

Kalley Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./Central Christian) led the charge for the Eagles with 11 kills and Lucy Pelzel (St. Joseph, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral) added seven. Caitlyn Pruis (Sioux Falls, SD./Sioux Falls Christian) was not far behind slamming down six. UNW had five aces on the night and 10 blocks. Sydney Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./MACRAY) dished out 31 assists and Marylyn Schroyer (Ft. Collins, Colo./Ft. Collins) picked up 24 digs.

The Eagles are back in action on Saturday as they host the College of St. Scholastica, beginning at 1 pm.
