St. Paul, Minn. -- The University of Northwestern baseball team (4-4) knocked off Luther College (2-1) 13-5 on Saturday afternoon. The offense gave Sam Ludzack (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) (1-0) all the run support that he needed to help the Eagles continue their hot play after knocking off #14 Whitewater earlier this week and splitting with St. Thomas who is receiving votes.

Andrew Simonson (Hudson, Wis./East Ridge) started off the bottom of the first with a ringing triple. Keegan Vercoe (Queen Creek, Ariz./Poston Butte) singled him home and Mason Skrede (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) made it first and second before Eric Peterson (Coon Valley, Wis./Westby) doubled both of those runners home. Wyatt Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Homeschool) kept the train rolling with an RBI double himself. Guerin Szafraniec (Brighton, Colo./Brighton) drew a walk to make it first and second before Carlton Lindow (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) singled to load the bases. Aaron Severson (Columbia Heights, Minn./Columbia Heights) singled home Morrell and the Eagles kept the bases loaded. Simonson doubled home Lindow and Szafraniec as UNW batted around in the first and ended the inning with a 7-0 lead.

Luther scored two runs in the fourth, but Northwestern got both of those back in the bottom half of the frame. Sam Peterson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) led off with a walk and Vercoe was hit by a pitch to make it first and second. Eric Peterson (Coon Valley, Wis./Westby) brought home Sam Peterson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) with a single and Morrell continued his hot day with a RBI single to bring home Vercoe.

Northwestern put up a crooked number in the fifth as they added four more. Lindow singled to start off the frame and Severson hit a double to make it second and third with no outs. Simonson singled home Lindow and Sam Peterson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) doubled home both runners. Morrell added his third RBI of the game with a single to score Peterson.

Sam Ludzack (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) gave up three earned runs in six innings of work on the mound. He scattered seven hits and struck out three. Max Barthel (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) followed in relief and gave up two earned runs in two innings while striking out one. Simonson came in for the ninth and finished off the Norse.

Andrew Simonson (Hudson, Wis./East Ridge) went 3-5 with three RBIs and two runs, Eric Peterson (Coon Valley, Wis./Westby) was 2-4 with three RBIs and a run scored, Wyatt Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Homeschool) was 3-4 with three RBIs and a run, and Aaron Severson (Columbia Heights, Minn./Columbia Heights) was 3-4 with a RBI and a run.
