Box Score CLINTON, Iowa. - The University of Northwestern St. Paul Men's Tennis team is rolling and kept up their great start to the season with a 9-0 sweep of the St. Ambrose University Fighting Bees on Wednesday. The win was the 100
th men's tennis win for Head Coach
Matt Swigart, and the Eagles stayed undefeated at 7-0.
The Eagles opened the day with an efficient sweep of the doubles competition, winning with a margin of 24 games to three.
Stewart Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Homeschool) and
Tyrus Studer (Rapid City, S.D./Stevens) started the memorable day with an 8-1 win at #3 doubles. The duo of
Davis Pfaff (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and
Matthew Wedin (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) followed with an 8-0 sweep in the #1 match.
Adam Ryerse (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) and
Jack Geurkink (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) teamed to complete the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win at the #2 match.
UNW kept their success going in the singles competition. Morrell opened it up with a 6-0, 6-1 win at the #3 spot. Studer followed with an identical 6-0, 6-1 win at #6. Pfaff won the decisive fifth team point with a 6-1, 5-7, 10-5 win in the #1 singles match.
With the win in hand, the Eagles kept up the momentum as Wedin won his #4 match (6-1, 6-0), Geurkink took his #5 contest (6-1, 6-0), and Ryerse closed out the day by winning at #2 (7-6, 6-3).
Next up for Northwestern is a match at Wartburg College on Saturday, March 20, at 10am.
