Women's Track & Field Places Top Three in UMAC Indoor Championships

SUPERIOR, Wis.-- The University of Northwestern women's track & field team traveled to Wisconsin-Superior for the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Championships. For the first time in program history, the University of Minnesota Morris won after holding off the College of St. Scholastica by 24 points Saturday. The Eagles collected 84 points to place third behind Minnesota Morris and St. Scholastica.

Final Results

Kacy Selje (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) finished as the top scoring athlete in the meet with 30.5 points and two individual event wins. She won the 60-meter (8.33) and 200-meter (28.03) events while anchoring the Eagles' winning 4 x 200-meter relay. The rookie also placed third in the pole vault and fifth in the 400-meter dash. Selje set her collegiate bests in the 60-meter, 200-meter and the pole vault.

Carly Thompson (Gibbon, Minn./GFW) had a few good appearances as she came in fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.70, her collegiate best.

Ava DeShazer (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) took second in the 3000-meter run and the 5000-meter run with times of 12:16.13 and 20:25.50, respectively and shaving off seconds to finish with her collegiate bests.

Megan Nowak (Athens, Wis./Athens) finished third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.94 seconds.

The Eagles 4 x 200-meter relay came in first, seconds ahead anyone else in 2:05.08. The team included Carly Thompson (Gibbon, Minn./GFW), Megan Nowak (Athens, Wis./Athens), Maggie Hippen (Chanhassen, Minn./Homeschool) and Kacy Selje (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest). The same crew took on the 4 x 400-meter relay and finished second behind St. Scholastica with a time of 4:46.72.

Carly Thompson (Gibbon, Minn./GFW) came in second in the long jump, with a jump of 4.30m.
