MILWAUKEE – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team bounced back from their season opening game at Wisconsin Lutheran on Friday night to take down the MSOE Raiders on Saturday afternoon. A strong defensive effort enabled the Eagles to grind to a 64-55 win over the Raiders.
MSOE led after making the first basket of the game, but the Eagles answered with a three-pointer to take a 3-2 lead. Northwestern never trailed again in the game as they steadily held off the Raiders on defense while scoring efficiently on offense.
Northwestern shot 41.2 percent from the field as a team, making 21-of-51 from the field. From three-point range, the Eagles made seven of their 19 attempts for a 36.8 percent clip. UNW's defense held the Raiders to 34.4 percent from the field (22-for-64) and 26.3 percent from downtown (5-for-19).
Henry Fahnbulleh (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) led the way for the Eagles with 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field, 2-for-3 from beyond the arc, and 5-of-6 at the charity stripe. The sophomore added six boards, a block, and a steal for the Eagles.
The duo of
Noah Alm (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) and
Kyle Kaemingk (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) had 15 points each. Alm shot 5-of-13 with a pair of three-pointers and added three rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Kaemingk went 5-for-12, splashed a pair of three's, and added five defensive boards for UNW.
