ST. PAUL, Minn.- For the first time in the 2021 season, the Eagles were coming off of a conference loss on Saturday afternoon as they prepared to host Northland at Reynolds Field. UNW responded in a big way by defeating the Lumberjills 3-0 to move to 6-1 in UMAC play.
The Eagles put on a remarkable performance defensively. The Eagles did not allow the Jills to create a single scoring opportunity, as not only did Northland not have a shot on goal during the game, they did not have a single shot in general throughout the duration of the game. The Eagles midfielders and defenders put on a clinic in front of the home fans.
The offensive players for Northwestern also came to play.
RJ Mullin (Temecula, Calif./Rancho Christian) started the scoring right away, putting in a header off of a beautiful pass from
Mya Chan (Brandon, S.D./Homeschool) in the fourth minute. That was Mullin's first goal of the season, and Chan was credited with the assist.
It was a big night for freshman Megan Korht, as she scored the first goal of her career. The goal came in the 38
th minute when she found a loose ball in the box and punched it in just past the outstretched hands of the Northland goalkeeper.
In the 48
th minute, just after the halftime break, it was the Eagles' most dangerous offensive player who added to her incredible season. Sophomore
Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School) scored her team leading 10
th goal of the season to make it a 3-0 game. That score would hold up as the final.
The Eagles had an impressive 27 shots with 17 of those on net.
Northwestern will be back in action on Tuesday, October 12
th as they host North Central at 5:00pm. The Eagles defeated the Rams 6-1 earlier this season.
