Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | David Pederson

The Eagles and the Yellowjackets Play to a Tie in a Matchup of the Top Two Teams in the UMAC

SUPERIOR, Wisc.- UNW Women's Soccer played against Wisconsin-Superior in a matchup of the top two teams in the UMAC on Saturday afternoon. The Yellowjackets entered the game undefeated at 10-0, and the Eagles were 10-1 with their only loss coming to the Jackets earlier in the season. The UMAC standings would remain unchanged as the game ended in a 1-1 tie after two overtimes.

Early on in this contest both teams showed why they have had such successful seasons by playing very strong defensively. Scoring opportunities were hard to come by and the game entered the second half scoreless.

In the 67th minute the Eagles broke the tie, and it was a familiar face who did the scoring for Northwestern. Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School) scored her team leading 17th goal of the season and the Eagles led 1-0 entering the late stages of the contest.

UNW was minutes away from a win that would change the outlook of the conference championship race, but Wisconsin-Superior was able to come away with a clutch goal that would keep them at the top of the standings. Niya Wilson scored on a penalty kick in the 88th minute for the Jackets to tie the game.

No goals would be scored in the overtime periods and the game ended in a draw.

Wisconsin-Superior had 21 shots on the contest and Northwestern had 15.

Ellie Fryer (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) was fantastic in net for the Eagles, making nine saves.

UNW Women's Soccer has two games left in the regular season and both will be played at home. The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday, October 27th against Bethany Lutheran.
