Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn.- UNW Women's Soccer hosted Bethany Lutheran on Wednesday night in a game that had major UMAC Conference Tournament seeding implications. The Eagles entered the game with a 10-1-1 conference record and were slated in second place in the conference standings. The visiting Vikings were on the Eagles' heels in third place with a 9-3 record. With only one regular season game remaining after this match, anything besides a loss would clinch the #2 seed in the conference tournament for UNW. The Eagles got the result they needed finishing in a 0-0 tie with Bethany Lutheran, wrapping up the #2 seed.
The defenses from each team were the story in this important game. The goalies from each side made some quality saves and the defenders made life hard on the offensive players all night long.
The Eagles won the shot battle, especially in the second half. Possession was even throughout the first half, however in the second half and the two overtime periods, UNW had the majority of scoring opportunities. The home team would win the shot battle 22-7, and the shot on goal category 8-4.
The reigning UMAC Defensive Player of the Week,
Ellie Fryer (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville), was perfect in net for the Eagles. The goaltender saved all four shots on goal that she saw and kept the game scoreless throughout the entire 110 minutes.
Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School) led the offense for UNW firing eight shots. The senior
Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Home School) had three shots of her own.
The Eagles will close out the regular season at Reynolds Field on Saturday, October 30th against Martin Luther at 1:00pm. It is Senior Day for the Eagles as Head Coach
Josh Pettit and his coaching staff will honor the dedication and commitment that this senior class has shown to Eagles soccer.
