Women’s Soccer Scores Thrice in Shutout Win Over Crown

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team improved to 9-1 in conference play with a 3-0 shutout victory over the Crown College Storm on Saturday.

The Eagles controlled the game for nearly the full duration of the contest, outshooting the Storm 38-1 in the match with 16 shots on goal to Crown's zero.

UNW first found the back of the net in the 61st minutes when Kaylin Strike (Hanover, Minn./Buffalo) centered the ball in front of the goal where RJ Mullin (Temecula, Calif./Rancho Christian) got her right foot on it to send it past the keeper and put Northwestern up 1-0.

Northwestern doubled their lead in the 66th minute as Maia Ellenburg (Winona, Minn./Winona) dribbled through a Storm defender on the far right side of the field, launched a pass past another defender in the center of the field, finding Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School). The sophomore and leading goal-scorer for the Eagles proceeded to launch the pass on one touch past the diving keeper to the upper left corner of the goal, scoring her 15th of the season.

The Eagles added one more in the 88th minute when the Storm made the mistake of fouling Moeller in the penalty box. The ensuing penalty kick iced the win for the Eagles as Moeller launched her shot to the right when the keeper guessed left, and the 3-0 score would hold until time expired.

Up next for Northwestern is a journey to Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, for a conference battle starting at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 22.
