Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | David Pederson

The Eagles Defeat Morris 4-2 at Reynolds Field

ST. PAUL, Minn.- The UNW Women's Soccer continued their fantastic season as they improved to 8-1 in UMAC play with a 4-2 win over Minnesota-Morris. The Eagles controlled possession for a majority of the game and scored two goals in each half on their way to the victory.

Northwestern was coming off a match in which they scored seven goals against North Central earlier in the week and they kept that offensive momentum rolling early on in this contest. Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School) continued her incredible season by scoring her 14th goal of the season in just the third minute of action. Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Home School) was credited with the assist off of a nice feed for the goal. Minutes later, the Eagles scored again and the Eagles had a 2-0 lead within the first ten minutes of play. This time, it was Mya Chan (Brandon, S.D./Homeschool) scoring for the Eagles. It was a big moment for the freshman as she scored the first goal of her career.

That 2-0 lead would hold until the half. The Eagles played a great half and made it hard for the Cougars to generate offense. In the first half, UNW outshot Minnesota-Morris 11-1.

Less than two minutes into the second half, it was Maia Ellenburg's (Winona, Minn./Winona) turn to find the back of the net. It was Ellenburg's second goal of the season, and it put the Eagles in control 3-0.

However, the visiting Cougars refused to go away quietly. Shannon Young would score for Morris in the 67th minute to trim the Eagles' lead to two.

In the 73rd minute, Megan Kohrt (Monona, Wis./Homeschool) assisted on a Lily Fabienke (Ham Lake, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy) goal and UNW went back on top by three goals. This was the first goal of Fabienke's season and career, and it put the Eagles in a comfortable position going down the stretch of the match.

The Cougars would add another goal in the 80th minute, but it wasn't enough as Northwestern would win 4-2.

The Eagles outshot the Cougars 24-5 for the game, and won the shots on goal category 16-3.

Having scored 11 goals in two games at Reynolds Field this week, the red hot Eagles will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they play host to Crown. The Eagles won the previous matchup with the Storm this season in dramatic fashion, when Maia Ellenburg (Winona, Minn./Winona) scored a late goal to win it for the Eagles.
