HUTCHINSON, Minn.- It was a historic day at Crow River Country Club as the UNW Women's Golf Team competed in the Bethany Lutheran Invite on Friday afternoon. The Eagles won the event by shooting a 356 (+72) which set the record for the lowest score in program history.
The Eagles edged out the previous record by one stroke. The record had been held for ten years by the 2011 squad who shot a 357 at the NAC Championship. The win kept the Eagles undefeated during the fall of 2021, as they have won all six events they have competed in.
Leading the Eagles was
Kelly Van Den Bussche (Princeton, Ill./Princeton). The sophomore finished third overall with a score of 88 (+17). This was a career best for Van Den Bussche, edging out her top score from earlier in the season by a single stroke.
Consistency has been key for the Eagles all season long, and that was the case once again this afternoon.
Kirsten Darling (Coon Rapids, Minn./Legacy Christian Academy) and
Mattie Krause (Clear Lake, Iowa/Clear Lake) each shot an 89 (+18) to finish a stroke behind their teammate Van Den Bussche, and to tie for fourth overall.
Claire Haakenson (Albertville, Minn./St. Michael Albertville) was a stroke behind them, shooting a 90 (+19).
Grace Nyhus (Henning, Minn./Henning) had a strong day as well, shooting a 92 (+21). The strong, team play carried the Eagles to another victory this afternoon.
The Eagles will look to continue their success and build off of their record breaking round as they participate in Martin Luther's invite tomorrow afternoon.
