ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team hosted its second home game of the week as they took on the Maranatha Baptist Sabercats. The game was full of action as five goals were scored in total by both teams under the lights Thursday night.
The Eagles took control right off the bat as freshman
Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School) scored from the corner of the 18 yard box on an upper-ninety shot over the goalie. Maranatha would tie the match five minutes later.
Freshman
Estefani Hanson (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes) scored her first goal of the season to push ahead once again. The Sabercats would yet again tie things up going into halftime.
In the first half, UNW outshot Maranatha 12-3.
The Eagles came out ready to work in the second half to finish business. Northwestern possessed the ball most of the half and had 18 shots just in the second.
As time was running out,
Amanda Kocurek (North Branch, Minn./North Branch) would rocket a shot past the keeper to give UNW the advantage. With only three minutes left in regulation, the Sabercats were not able to tie things up.
Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School) had a career high 14 shots (5 shots-on-goal),
Danielle Roberts (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) had four shots (1 SOG) and
Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Home School) finished with three shots (1 SOG).
With Thursday night's win, the Eagles now hold a 1-2 record on the 2020 season. They will be back to the pitch on September 29 (1:45 PM) as they travel to Maranatha to take on the Sabercats once again.
