ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team hosted Viterbo University for their first home game of the 2020 season. Viterbo came into the match with one win under their belt, while the Eagles entered with one loss.
Northwestern came ready to play and defend their turf in Tuesday night action under the lights. The game began with even opportunities and a competitive edge from both sides. Twenty-eight minutes into the first half, Viterbo scored on a through ball passed between two UNW defenders.
The rest of the first half would be scoreless for both sides. The Eagles had four shots to end the first 45 minutes of play, down one goal.
In second half play, Northwestern would have more chances offensively and held Viterbo to just one goal. The game would end in a 0-2 loss for the Eagles.
Maia Ellenburg (Winona, Minn./Winona) had two shots for UNW along with
Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Home School) and
Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School). Goalie,
Ellie Fryer (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) had 11 saves on the night.
Northwestern will be back in action this Thursday at home as they take on Maranatha Baptist at 5 PM.
