DUBUQUE, IOWA – The University of Northwestern women's lacrosse team traveled to take on the Loras Duhawks Thursday night. Loras came into the contest 1-0 in Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC). The Duhawks remain undefeated as they defeated the Eagles 21-5. With the loss, UNW falls to 0-2 overall and in the MWLC.
Loras came out strong, scoring two goals before
Talia Sherry (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) would score for Northwestern in the fifth minute. Sherry would score again for the Eagles, but the Duhawks took a 15-2 lead into halftime.
The Eagle defense picked up in the second half, holding Loras to just six goals in the final 30 minutes. The offense continued to struggle, however, they beat their first half total of two goals with three in the second.
Loras outshot Northwestern 31-17 and 24-12 shots on goal.
Sherry led the Eagles offense scoring three goals with12 shots and five ground balls.
Kessa Schreiner (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) and
Danielle Eury (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) each scored a goal for Northwestern.
