ORLANDO, FL. – The University of Northwestern men's tennis team competed in Thursday morning action at Oak Street Community Park when they met up with nonconference opponent, St. Ambrose University. The Eagles recovered from a Tuesday loss to record a 6-3 win and improve to 6-3 overall this season.
The Eagles swept doubles competition, recording quick wins in all three spots. The no. 1 duo of
Davis Pfaff (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and
Matthew Wedin (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) recorded an 8-1 win, while Jack Gerukink and
Tyrus Studer (Rapid City, S.D./Stevens) won 8-3 at no. 2.
Adam Ryerse (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) and
Isaac Velgersdyk (Savage, Minn./Southwest Christian)e cruised to an 8-0 final at no. 3.
Northwestern's singles play also feautured a trio of strong play led by
Davis Pfaff (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove), who took the no. 1 singles match, 6-1,6-1.
Matthew Wedin (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) tacked on a straight set, 6-2, 6-2 win and
Adam Ryerse (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) was the final UNW player to find success in singles play, winning at no. 5, 6-1, 6-1.
Northwestern will take on Monmouth College in one final spring break match-up scheduled for Friday, March 13 at Lake Cane Tennis Center. Play is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. (EST).
