ORLANDO, FL. – The University of Northwestern women's tennis team competed in Tuesday night action at Lake Cane Tennis Center when they met up with nonconference opponent, Ursinus College (Pennsylvania). In what marked the Eagle's third meeting of spring break play, the Eagles fell to a dominant Ursinus squad in an 8-1 final.
The no. 1 doubles duo of
Shawna Spears (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) and
Mafee Rinta (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) pushed their match to a close 8-5, but UNW was unable to grab a win in doubles play.
Ashlyn Hughes (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) was the lone winner for Northwestern, picking up a 6-2, 6-2 win at no. 6 singles - her sixth straight.
Sabrina Bush (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake) dropped a quick set one (6-1) but battle back in a close second set before falling 7-6 (7-3).
The Eagles will enjoy an off day on Wednesday before returning to action on Thursday, March 12. Action against Saint Ambrose University will get underway at 8:00 a.m. (EST) at Oak Street Community Park in Kissimmee, Florida.
