ORLANDO, FL. – The University of Northwestern men's tennis team competed in Tuesday night action at Lake Cane Tennis Center when they met up with nonconference opponent, Ursinus College (Pennsylvania). In what marked the Eagle's third meeting of spring break play, the Eagles fell to a dominant Ursinus squad in a 9-0 final.
Despite a pair of close doubles matches, the Eagles were unable to sneak away with a win.
Adam Ryerse (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) and
Isaac Velgersdyk (Savage, Minn./Southwest Christian)e pushed the no. 3 match to a close 8-6 final.
In singles play,
Matthew Wedin (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) fought hard in the second send, sending the match to a tiebreaker. He ultimately fell in a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) final.
Joel Fremling (Aitkin, Minn./Hudson) recorded a 6-3 set two win at no. 6 singles, but fell in a 10-6 super tiebreaker set three.
The Eagles will enjoy an off day on Wednesday before returning to action on Thursday, March 12. Action against Saint Ambrose University will get underway at 8:00 a.m. at Oak STreet Community Park in Kissimmee, Florida.
