MORRIS, Minn. -- The University of Northwestern men's basketball team hit the road to take on Minnesota Morris in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action Wednesday night. The Eagles shot nearly 50% from the field as five UNW players scored in double-figures to cruise to their ninth straight win in a 95-70 final.
Northwestern improves to 15-6 overall and 11-1 in league play, while Morris falls to 6-14 this season and 2-9 in the
UMAC. The Eagles are tied with Bethany Lutheran atop the conference standings.
UNW drained eight first-half three-pointers to jump out to a 20-point lead, while the Cougars suffered from 14% shooting from long range.
The Eagles continued to jive in second half play, with offensive efforts propelled by a dominant game from freshman
Solomon Bach (Watertown, S.D./Watertown). The rookie had a team-best 21 points and tacked on 10 boards on the night.
Michael Moore (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) and
Noah Alm (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) each recorded 15 points after draining three, three-pointers apiece. Alm is third in the UMAC with 58 makes this season.
Kyle Kaemingk (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) and
Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area) rounded out the five players dropping double figures on the night. Kaemingk finished with 11 points, shooting four of four from the line, while Youngberg tacked on 10 points, 10 boards.
The Eagles outrebounded Morris, 47-39 and scored 34 points in the paint to the Cougars' 28.
Northwestern will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 8 when they welcome Martin Luther to the Ericksen Center for afternoon league play. Saturday also marks UNW's alumni day (with a game to take place at 10:30 AM) and senior night.
Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area) and
Brady Peterson (Princeton, Minn./Homeschool) will be honored prior to the 3:00 PM tipoff.
