WHITE BEAR LAKE, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's tennis team took on Iowa Rivers Conference opponent, University of Dubuqe, in Saturday afternoon action. The Eagles picked up their third straight win to improve to 3-2 on the year with a 9-0 win. The match marked the Eagles final competition before their Spring Break trip slated for March 9-13 in Orlando, Fla.
Northwestern set the tone early, securing three quick wins in doubles play. The no. 1 duo of
Davis Pfaff (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and
Matthew Wedin (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) won 8-2 and the no. 2 team of
Tyrus Studer (Rapid City, S.D./Stevens) and
Jack Geurkink (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) cruised to an 8-0 victory.
Singles play continued to go smoothly for UNW, as all six Eagles won in straight sets, with the no. 3 through 6 positions dropping a combined one game only.
Davis Pfaff (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) secured a 6-4, 6-4 victory at the top singles spot, while
Matthew Wedin (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) edged out a 7-5, 6-2 win at no. 2.
The Eagles will return to action on Monday, March 9 when they take on Desales University in Orlanda, Fla. Action at the USTA National Tennis Center will get underway at 8 a.m.
