Playoffs Preview: Eagles to Host St. Scholastica in UMAC Men's Hoops Semifinals Wednesday

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team is set to welcome St. Scholastica to the Ericksen Center for a Wednesday night UMAC semifinal match-up. The Saints battled their way past Crown on Monday night in quarterfinal action enroute to their third meeting of the year with the Eagles (and second in the past week). Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. and the winner will advance to Championship play on Saturday with an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament on the line.
 
The Last Time They Met
Northwestern last met up with St. Scholastica on Saturday, Feb. 22 in the teams' final regular season conference contest. The Eagles secured the outright UMAC regular season title (their second straight) with an 81-68 win. In a second half battle, UNW maintained control of the game by shooting 55% from the field in the final 20 minutes. UNW scored a dominant 46 points in the paint to the Saints' 18. Efficient offense from five Eagles scoring in double-figures led the Northwestern efforts. Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area) blazed the way with 16 points and 10 rebounds (his 14th double-double of the year). 
 
UNW Stat Leaders
Senior Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area) has put together an outstanding season, leading the UMAC in rebounding (10.7 per game) while sitting at no. 7 in scoring (15.8 points per game). The standout forward broke Northwestern's career offensive rebounding record this season and has led UNW to hold opponents to the lowest field goal percentage in the league (.320). He is no. 2 in field goal percentage (.572), no. 4 in free throw percentage (.913) and no. 2 in assist/turnover ratio (2.8). Junior Noah Alm (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) also ranks among the conference's top performers, resting in second place in scoring with 17.9 points per game. Alm leads the UMAC in free throw percentage (.913) and is no. 3 in the NCAA. The Eagles enter the match-up on a 13-game win streak. They average 87.3 points per game and allow just 76.3 defensively. 
 
Spotlight on the Saints
The Saints enter Wednesday play with a 14-12 overall record and a 10-6 finish in the UMAC. Scholastica's Collin Anderson has led their scoring efforts this season, averaging 15.3 points per game. He is most deadly from long-range where he's connected on the second most three-pointers per game in the UMAC (2.8). Well-balanced scoring features four more Saints who average double-figures this season including: Nick Carlson (14.4), Jarod Wilken (12.2), Jack Silgen (11.6) and Quinn Fischer (10.8). In Scholastica's last meeting with Northwestern, Collin Anderson led the offensive efforts with 16 points. 16 Saints saw action in the contest as 46 points came from the bench.

All UMAC postseason events have the following set admissions prices: Adults, $10; college students and seniors, $5; youth (Age 6-18), $5; age 5 and under, FREE. Any UMAC students, faculty and staff are free with a valid and current institutional ID. No other passes will be accepted.
