Eagles Outlasted by Yellowjackets in Conference Matchup, 85-58

SUPERIOR, WIS. – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team traveled to UW-Superior for a big conference game Wednesday evening. Earlier this season, the Eagles defeated the Yellowjackets 81-66 at the Erickson Center. Although UNW led the first quarter, they were unable to hold onto the lead, falling to the Yellowjackets 85-58.

Northwestern falls to 15-9 and 11-4 in the UMAC, while UW-Superior improves to 17-7 and 13-2 in the UMAC.

As the top two ranked defenses in the conference took to the court, it was the Yellowjackets who scored first. Miranda Crenshaw (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) would score the first five points for the Eagles with two buckets down low and one free throw (completing a three point play).

The energy was high as each team worked hard to keep the lead. Northwestern would gain their first lead of the night with a little over five minutes to play in the first, with a three pointer by Jordan Sauve (Blaine, Minn./Blaine).

First quarter play resulted in a 21-19 UNW lead.

The second quarter started strong for the Eagles as they continued to battle back against the Yellowjackets. UW-Superior would outscore Northwestern 22-12 in the second and end the half with an eight point lead up 41-33.

Third quarter proved difficult for the Eagles as they were held to just 10 points. The Yellowjackets continued to score and led by 17 at the end of three, 58-43.

UW-Superior would not miss and continue their lead into the fourth. The Eagles, not able to overcome, took their fourth conference loss of the season, 85-58.

Rio Landers (Grand Meadow, Minn./Grand Meadow) led the Eagles scoring a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Jordan Sauve (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) scored eight, while Miranda Crenshaw (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) added seven.

The Eagles will finish regular season play on Saturday, Feb. 22 as they travel to St. Scholastica to take on the Saints. Tip-off is set for 4:45 pm.
