ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team hosted Faith Baptist Saturday afternoon. Seniors
Taylor Brinkman (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) and
Danielle Roberts (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) were honored at halftime for their careers at UNW and dedication to the program.
The Eagles defeated Faith Baptist 6-0 in a thrilling afternoon match-up.
Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Home School) starting things off for Northwestern in the first two minutes of play with an upper ninety shot from the 25-yard line that found the back of the net. UNW continued to out play Faith Baptist as they took five corner kicks just in the first half.
On the Eagles fourth corner kick,
Natalie Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan County Christian) sent a ball into the box that connected with her sister,
Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School), who headed the ball into the net to make the score 2-0, UNW. Northwestern continued to take many shots on goal, keeping the goalie busy.
The first half ended with 17 shots by the Eagles to Faith Baptist's one.
Again, UNW came ready to go as
Natalie Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan County Christian) connected this time with
Danielle Roberts (Hastings, Minn./Hastings), who volleyed the ball into the net, past the keeper. Less than ten minutes later,
Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Home School) found the back of the net again to make the score 4-0.
In the 57th minute of play, freshman
Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School) ran through the defense on a breakaway to give the Eagles a 5-0 advantage. Ten minutes later,
Estefani Hanson (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes) scored her first collegiate goal off of an assist from
Maia Ellenburg (Winona, Minn./Winona) to close out the game for Northwestern.
UNW finished the game with 34 shots and 11 on goal to Faith's three shots (two on goal). Northwestern took 11 corner kicks to Faith Baptists none.
Natalie Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan County Christian) had two assist in the game.
Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School) led the Eagles with nine shots (four on goal) and two goals.
Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Home School) finished with six shots (three on goal) and two goals and
Maia Ellenburg (Winona, Minn./Winona) had five shots (one on goal) and one assist.
This concludes UNW's fall season as they await conference play in the spring. The Eagles finished with a 4-3 record and hope to build off of that in the spring.
